Born in 1932 in Bawal, Haryana, Om Prakash Sharma is a modernist who did post-graduation in Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1966. Sharma is known to have painted several abstract paintings in his career, experimenting with the Neo-Tantric art movement of the 1960s, and creating a series of ragamala paintings based on the eponymous theme. Sharma has participated in solo exhibitions, including those by Lalit Kala Academy, Delhi, 2007; Visual Art Gallery, IHC, Delhi in 2005; and Gallery Zen, Bangalore in 2001. He received a national award for painting from the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1969. Om Prakash Sharma passed away on 18th July 2019.
