YASHIKA SUGANDH

Based in New Delhi, Yashika Sugandh uses her art to examine societal contradictions in India and empower women by portraying their daily struggles. Her use of vibrant colours combined with heavy emotions results in striking pieces that challenge patriarchal norms.

Yashika Sugandh, born in Kolkata, India, is an artist who works primarily in oil and acrylic. Her artwork explores the contradictions in Indian society, including themes of duality, isolation and belonging, and harmony and conflict, using strong symbols. As an artist, she feels its important to react to societal struggles. Her paintings reflect her sensitivity to social resistance and memories from her past. Her current work is a bold response to patriarchal norms. Each painting serves as armour, a healing tool for the wounds inflicted by life and the past. Her images are a manifestation of her thoughts, emotions, beliefs, values, and past experiences. For her, painting is a way to heal, fight, remember, and remain vigilant.

After obtaining her Masters from Amity University in 2017, Sugandh launched her professional art career. She has showcased her work at various venues, including the India Art Fair, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Jehangir Art Gallery, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, and Hindustan Times City Imagine Fest. In 2017, she earned the City Award for Delhi in the Kalakand Art contest by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation.
