Born in Rajasthan in 1974, Dileep Sharma completed his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Rajasthan School of Arts in Jaipur in 1996, followed by a Master's degree at the Sir J J School of Art in Mumbai in 1998. Addressing his experiences of objects, people, cultures, traditions and emotions, he has said that his work is representative of global culture and socio-political issues. Fashion plays a vital role in Sharma's work, and his fragmented, colourful motifs are indicative of his satirical take on a world dominated by advertisements.
Sharma began his artistic career at Prithvi Gallery in Mumbai with an exhibition of self-portraits. This led to the creation of his now-famous alter ego, Kunwarji, that has gradually developed into an independent subject.
Sharma’s juxtaposition of motifs that reflect aspects of the media, popular culture, and fashion imbues his images with a sense of humour and fantasy. He is unrestrained in his creative process, combining the harsh realities of life with an overwhelming sense of determination, resulting in a celebration of the human spirit.
Sharma has exhibited his works in several national and international exhibitions. The artist currently lives and works in Mumbai.
